A Dental Bridge To Restore Your Smile
Do you need to replace one or two missing teeth? Then a fixed dental bridge is an excellent and straightforward solution to your smile’s needs. A restoration such as this can be anchored directly on top of your healthy teeth on each side of the missing one, with functional crowns over the teeth, and a false “pontic” tooth suspended between them. Or, it can even be placed directly on top of dental implants - replacing up to 3 or 4 teeth at one time!
A bridge procedure generally takes about two visits to complete - similar to traditional crown methods. First, we prep your supporting (abutment) teeth, and then take an impression. Two weeks later, we have you come back to try the fixed prosthesis in, and bond it into place.
Each of our bridges is matched to resemble your smile’s natural appearance - both in shape and color. This helps you feel confident about your new smile instead of hiding the embarrassment of missing teeth.
Caring For Your New Bridge
Keeping your bridge clean is very important. Traditional brushing and flossing cannot reach underneath the fixed restoration unless some additional tools are used. If not kept clean, the supporting teeth may develop cavities or gum disease.
First, invest in a floss threader or water flosser. These oral hygiene aids make it easy to clean under the restoration and around your natural teeth. Experiment with each one to see which you like best! Clean the area thoroughly once or twice each day.
Replacing your tooth with a dental bridge can help to maintain your natural biting patterns, otherwise your other teeth will slowly start to drift out of place over time. If you’ve invested in braces or other types of cosmetic treatment, this is a huge concern. It can also lead to gum disease.
